Food Advice and Latitude

I wanted to write a small thing real quick about a consideration I’m aware of regarding food advice.

You see, where someone lives and its similarity to where you live determines the reliability of some things you learn on the internet about food, where so many people from all over the world can submit directions and explanations which presume that it should work elsewhere. As the case is, climates are warmer or cooler depending on latitude, which means you can get away with some things at one latitude, but not get away with it in another.

For instance, the French have a type of very nice butter container which is water cooled. The butter is pressed into a bowl, and then the bowl is placed in a container upside-down that is partially filled with water. In France, the butter will not melt regardless of the season, and you can simply withdraw the butter bowl from the other container and scoop off however much butter you need at any time.

But, try this in the American South…

Another possible example pertains to some cheese that I’m planning to make soon. The cheese is called Paneer, and is from India, and is very easy to make, taking only two to three hours to complete after beginning with raw cow’s milk.

Now, I watched a video on the internet about this, and the women describing how to make it was in the United Kingdom, and at the end of the video, she said that the cheese would last a long time just left at room temperature.

The United Kingdom is at a much higher latitude than where I live in the United States. Will my cheese go bad sooner? Probably, and I should also probably keep it in the refrigerator.

That’s all. You just have to consider people’s latitude when they are talking about food, in a similar way you have to change cooking methods when you live in the Rocky Mountains because of elevation.
