I wanted to quickly write about a small but important matter. The topic is generally about how the brain can recruit more than the higher reason and logic of the Frontal Left Lobe to attempt to discern your circumstances about external reality, and that when the brain happens to attempt to do so with either the Left or Right Temporal Lobe for language, then this can easily result in a loss of touch with reality.
The reason is because of how the two Temporal Lobes evolved, which was not only to process sound collected from both ears, but to also make sense of spoken word sounds, and then to move through its learned understanding of the rules of a known language to very rapidly form replies.
To think of something to say or write can be said to be assembling a statement out of selected words in a certain order, combined with other aspects of speech such as changes in pitch or tempo in order to stress certain parts of the statement to change the meaning of the words.
On an important tangent, it is not only words that Temporal Lobes can select, but this ‘Tree’ they move through can do other things as well. One is that a Temporal Lobe can arrive at endpoints in this neurological tree that elicit a change to some other part of the brain, such as an evoked emotion, or any other thing which can be triggered by a signal thrown out to another part of the brain to initiate activity somewhere else.
ANOTHER thing Temporals can do, and may be somewhat detrimental, is use their normal ability to generate word statements, but instead of using it for language, use the same assemblage of encoded memory concepts to arrive at an understanding of What-Is-Going-On. What does this mean? That the Temporal’s native ability to parse language can also be used as an alternative way to orient to the world and the things happening inside of it.
Unfortunately, the intended purpose for Temporal Lobes is not to orient to the world, but to process sounds from the ears and understand word sounds, and that it is a poor substitute for the very sophisticated thinking of the Frontal Lobes which go about orienting to the circumstances of world in a much more reliable and accurate way.
Why are Temporals poor at this? It is because they do part of the work of exchanging communication with other human beings via a mutually understood language, and BECAUSE they are bound to language, they are limited to only the concepts the language has words for, AND the rules governing the language which dictate how words can be combined and ordered together. To stray too far from the rules governing speech or writing, and you have a harder time being understood by another. All of this means limitations, limitations, limitations.
Another way of saying this is that the use of language is always a loss of information whenever words are exchanged with another, and that we do nothing but fail to deliver things fully every day of our lives. If you observe this carefully, you will see that much of speech is only to clue another in to arriving at what we mean themselves, and we hope to provide enough Clues with manners of indirect language. And it is THAT which we sometimes recruit to formulate an understanding about external reality with nothing but an unspoken series of sentences.
And in closing, there is one least reason to not attempt to utilize Temporal Lobes to understand the world, and it is that they like to have fun. What I mean is that as the evolved regions for spoken replies, they are biased to enjoy speech that is more interesting. This means that they invent outlandish stories, super-theories, international conspiracies, raise an individual to unrealistic importance OR dangerous and unjust unimportance, ext. This is because INTEREST spurs more activity from Temporal Lobes to continue to fire their synapses, and it is like the child that prefers the playground over the classroom.
This tells you something about the quality of information received from Temporal Lobes, and whether or not it belongs in the paperback thriller rack.
